U.S. Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said that the reason Donald Trump may have made major mistakes in his meetings with former FBI Director James Comey – especially kicking everyone but Comey out of the Oval Office for a one-on-one with Comey that is now at the heart of the question of Trump’s possible obstruction of justice – is because Trump “is new at this [being president]” and that Trump is “not steeped in the long-running protocols of being a Washington politician.”

While asinine in nature and dubious in reality, this defense does beg a couple of extremely obvious questions.

First, Trump’s entire justification for running for president is that he’s NOT a politician and NOT a Washington insider. So how can you use that excuse to defend Trump’s glaring, repetitive and disastrous politically ignorant behavior?

Second, how can you claim that Trump “doesn’t know how to be president yet” when Trump, himself, has said:

Trump loves to tell you how smart he thinks he is. He says ridiculous things like, “I have a great brain,” “I know the best words” and “My brain tells me everything I need to know.

To hear Trump tell it, he’s the smartest human being who’s ever lived.

Clearly, that’s an “alternative fact. Because William James Sidis is …

People often ask if Trump is “crazy” or “unhinged.” His defenders would have us believe that Trump is perpetually engaged in some deep, complex strategy invisible and incomprehensible to us mere and inferior mortals. But if you watch chimpanzees throw their feces at each other, do you wonder if there’s something incredibly complex and intellectual going on? No, you just think, “Stupid monkeys are throwing poop at each other.” It’s the same premise any time you watch what Trump does or hear what Trump says; he’s a monkey throwing shit.

Contrary to what his defenders, and more laughably, his lackeys desperately want you to believe, all tangible evidence suggests the answer is painfully simple: Donald Trump is stupid. He’s “Jethro Bodine” stupid. He’s “Forrest Gump’s dumber brother” stupid. He’s also ignorant, and what’s worse is he CHOOSES to be ignorant because he already believes that — no matter what the subject matter – he already knows more about it than anyone.

But, for his entire 70 years of his existence, Trump’s been pampered and told that he’s ingenius, and superior, and special (by people being paid to do so). And that’s made him insufferably and unfathomably arrogant, as he demonstrates with every public opportunity.

Given the power of the presidency, that’s a profoundly dangerous combination.

Believe me.
