Paul Ryan: The man, the myth, the voting record

Posted on January 26, 2011

Well, Obama’s delivered his third State of the Union address. Certainly not his best; and consisting of more fluff than a marshmallow factory.

But how about Republican Paul Ryan, the GOP’s choice to deliver the official Republican response to Obama’s speech?  What an impressive speaker! Almost impressive enough to make you forget how badly the man needs a bottle of Visine®.

But cheap shots aside, there are a few facts you should know about Ryan before you cast your vote for him for the 2012 presidency.

  • He wrote the Privatize Social Security bill
  • He voted for the Economic Stimulus Plan bill (TARP) … three times
  • He voted for the auto bailout … three times
  • He voted against the Seniors Protection Act
  • He voted against Limiting Afghanistan Military Funding … three times
  • He voted against Limiting Iraq Military Funding … four times
  • He voted against a line-item audit of Halliburton and other Pentagon military contractor accounting … six times
  • He voted against the Small Business Lending Fund … twice
  • He voted against Science & Technology Funding … 11 times
  • He voted against Employment, Infrastructure, and Transportation Appropriations bills … 9 times
  • His IRS tax reform proposal calls for immediate tax INCREASE on the bottom 90 percent of the taxpaying population.

In his official GOP response to the State of the Union address, Ryan said “We face a crushing burden of debt. The debt will soon eclipse our entire economy, and grow to catastrophic levels in the years ahead. We hold to a couple of simple convictions: Endless borrowing is not a strategy; spending cuts have to come first.”

But, Ryan voted against the Reinstating PAYGO Congressional Budget Rule … 4 times.

Ryan said, “Costs are going up, premiums are rising, and millions of people will lose the coverage they currently have. Job creation is being stifled by all of its taxes, penalties, mandates and fees.”

But that didn’t seem to stop Ryan when he voted against the state and federal Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization and Expansion bills (seven times), and against the 2007 Homeowners’ Catastrophic Insurance Act of 2007 twice, and  the HMO Streamlining and Operational Reform Act of 2008, three times.

The guy is so two-faced, they’re thinking of casting him as the main villain in the next Batman movie.

But don’t take my word for it.  Look here and see for yourself exactly how much of a hypocrite Paul “Visine” Ryan actually is.

Because, let’s face it, there’s nothing a modern-day Republican wants more than to “get the Red out.”
