The effect of celebrity

At a recent U2 concert in Glasgow, the band U2 finished a set and the lead singer, Bono, quieted the audience.  When it was quiet enough, Bono began clapping his hands slowly but rhythmically above his head.

“Every time I clap my hands,” Bono announced loudly, “a child in Africa dies.”

After a prolonged silence, a voice from the back of the theater screamed out, “Then stop clapping your f*cking hands, ya bastard!”
