Neo-cons are not ready to make nice

Six years ago, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks said the following to a concert crowd in London: “Just so you know, we’re on the good side with y’all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.”

Conservatives and neo-consevatives went bat-sh*t crazy calling for Maines to be publicly hanged, raped, murdered, imprisoned, have her daughter taken away from her, her family murdered, and that she should be never allowed to perform or even speak in the United States ever again.

Two weeks ago, Glenn Beck said, “President Barack Obama is a racist with a deep-seated hatred for white people.”

Conservatives and neo-consevatives (they’re not always the same thing) are going bat-sh*t crazy calling for Beck to be canonized to sainthood, protected from offended audiences, and elevated to national spokesman for the “He-Man Rednecks Club.”

Natalie Maines spoke a negative opinion about the sitting president and neo-cons wanted her to be raped, beaten, violated and murdered because “respect for the president is mandatory, especially in a time of war.”

Glenn Beck spoke a negative opinion about the sitting president and neo-cons are lining up to fellate him and kiss his ass because “this president deserves no respect” (Reminder: we’re still at war).

Where does this double-standard come from?  How does the respect due to the OFFICE of the president differ based on who occupies it?  The simple answer:  It doesn’t.  But that doesn’t matter to fear-mongering, hate-mongering, blindly ignorant partisan knuckle-draggers who are too busy fist-pumping whenever Bill O’Reilly tells an opposing viewpoint to shut up, or whenever Ann Coulter calls a Democrat a “fag.”

My personal and professional take is that Natalie Maines expressed an opinion that said nothing directly disparaging against George W. Bush.  Glenn Beck committed slander and character assassination directly against Barack Obama.  But you have to actually read the words they literally SAID, instead of the “interpretation” passed on by a bunch of babbling media whores who get paid to piss off and piss on “the enemy.”

Both Natalie Maines and Glenn Beck exercised the First Amendment rights guaranteed to them by the U.S. Constitution.  Neither of them yelled “Fire” in a crowded movie theater, but the neo-cons only want to burn the Dixie Chick.
